Astral projection is a technique used by witches and occult members to travel in the spirit realm. The process usually starts with meditation. Once a man or woman enters a trance-like state, that person's spiritual body is able to depart from their physical body. Witches and occult members use this technique to spy on others, cast spells, and attend satanic rituals when it is not possible to attend in person.

According to one occult website, the following advice is offered to people who want to achieve an out-of-body experience. "Begin with a partial separation. The key here is thought control. Keep your mind firmly focused on the idea of leaving the body."¹ Once a person enters a condition known as the vibrational state (with the assistance of demonic powers), that person can either experiment with a partial separation by releasing a hand or foot, or that person can attempt a full-body separation.

According to this occult website, the participants are advised to "think about getting lighter and lighter after entering the vibrational state. Think about how nice it would be to float upward. Keep this thought in mind at all costs and let no extraneous thoughts interrupt it. An out-of-body experience will occur naturally at this point."²

Another method is called the rotation method or the roll-out technique. According to the same website, "When you have achieved the vibrational state, try to roll over as if you were turning over in bed. Do not attempt to roll over physically. Try to twist your body from the top and virtually roll over into your second body right out of your physical self. At this point, you will be out of the body, but next to it. Think of floating upward, and you should find yourself floating above the body."³

Once an occult member perfects this technique, that person can begin traveling in the spirit realm. When witches use this process for casting spells or interfering in another person's life, they are commonly referred to as "trafficking" witches. At other times witches will use spirit travel to interfere with deliverance sessions. For example, if one member of the coven wants to seek deliverance, the other members will most likely follow her around in the spirit in an attempt to interfere with her conversion process.

Although Sacred Scriptures make reference to spirit travel in 2 Corinthians 12:2–4, Catholics are not allowed to use demonic powers to separate from their bodies. If in the event the faithful encounter a trafficking witch, they should ask God to strip that person of all demonic powers, and to have that person sealed back into his or her own body, in the name, power, and authority of our Lord Jesus Christ.
